Green Smithsonite is a rare and captivating mineral, prized for its soothing tones and botryoidal formations, often resembling delicate clusters of grapes similar to Grape Agate.  
Formed as a secondary mineral in the oxidised zones of zinc deposits, it develops over time through natural weathering processes near the Earth’s surface. 
Its beautiful green colouring is typically caused by the presence of copper within the mineral, giving rise to the soft, tranquil hues that make this variety especially sought after.
✧ History & Origins ~
Smithsonite was formally identified in 1832 and named in honour of James Smithson, the British chemist and mineralogist whose legacy also led to the creation of the Smithsonian Institution. 
Historically, Smithsonite was one of the primary ores of zinc before more efficient sources were developed. Today, it is treasured more for its beauty and rarity than for industrial use.
