Blue Coral is an enchanting gem born from the depths of the sea. Unlike most crystals that form in the earth, this stone started out as living coral that has fossilized over thousands of years, preserving its deep oceanic hues ranging from soft gray-blue to rich midnight tones. Because of its rarity, Blue Coral is treasured not only for its beauty but also for the powerful energy it carries from the ocean itself.
What is Blue Coral?  
It isn't a crystal in the usual sense. It’s actually the mineralized skeleton of a marine coral species ‘genus Heliopora’ that has been naturally fossilized or preserved over time.
🌊  Blue Coral comes from living marine coral colonies. Unlike most corals, its inner skeleton is naturally blue to gray-blue because it contains high levels of iron salts.
🪸 What you see in beads, carvings, or polished stones is the skeleton of the coral and not the soft polyps that were once alive.
📍 Blue Coral is quite rare and primarily found in parts of the Indo-Pacific, especially around Japan, Fiji, and the Great Barrier Reef.
🔹 When collected (often fossilized or from naturally deceased coral), it’s cut, polished, and used in jewelry or decorative pieces.
⚠️ Of course because live coral reefs are endangered, harvesting living coral is restricted or illegal in many places. Blue Coral you see on the market is either fossilized, sustainably sourced, or comes from older collections.
